Preschoolers just LOVE to build. Our school funding was cut. Pre-K budget was cut. Now we find out the DOE is asking for 1% more of our budget to be returned! I work in New York City with a very ACTIVE group of children.

We don't have money for supplies. This is my first year teaching at this school. I'm relying on Donor's Choose to help me build a block area with materials I know children love. Building materials. Magnetic transparent geometric shapes that are so open-ended the children will focus and create for hours.

I need to have enough Magna-tiles for a small group of children to build 3-D shapes without running out of materials. More materials, more focusing, more creativity and less unstructured "active" play.

The materials include large squares, 3-inch squares, 6-inch squares and four types of triangles. Among the triangles are 3-inch equilateral triangles, isosceles acute triangles each with 3-inch base, and isosceles right triangles with 3-inch legs. They will develop number sense for whole numbers, learning to share in small groups and create 3-Dimensional structure using shapes. There's more. They will be able to explore the concept of fractions and discover how smaller shapes can be used to create a larger ones. They will discover how many right triangles cover a smaller square. They will explore other tiles and how they can be used to make halves and wholes. This relates to real-life examples to further explore the concept of fractions such as dividing a sandwich into two halves or quarters. Building with such beautiful, transparent shapes in 3-D formations challenges a four year old imagination to build cast
