Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I currently teach preschool in an urban school. Most of the children I teach are 3-5 year olds from low economic families.

Close your eyes and think for a moment about what it feels like when you walk into an office, a friend's house, or even your house and calming music is playing... This is the atmosphere I attempt to provide in my classroom for my 3-5 year old children. Many of these children come from environments filled with TV noise, adult conversations, and sometimes even fighting. Often times, I allow the children to pick the music for the day, ranging from Ella Jenkins to Miles Davis. The problem is that this year, my CD player broke. The same thing happened last year, as well.

As a way to add a constant calming musical soundtrack to my classroom, I am requesting an Ipod Classic. This Ipod will enable me to import all of my music onto the device and have the music at my fingertips. There will be no more skipping Cd's, no more lost music, and no more broken CD players. My vision, is that this device will allow me the freedom to scroll exactly to the song I desire, without losing valuable teaching time trying to pick out a CD.

With your support, you can change the mood and feelings my students experience in the classroom. Everyday, students will be exposed to quality music in a variety of genres and will deepen their appreciation for the benefits of music.
