Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

All kids love to pretend, especially when it comes to cooking! I teach a special education, bilingual class in which all of the students are classified as mentally retarded. These students are delayed in many skills, including play skills and social skills. However, they certainly love to have fun!

Our classroom dramatic play center is in bad disrepair. Our toy kitchen has peeling paint, missing handles, and broken shelves. Due to budget cuts, our school can not afford to replace it. Although my students love to play in the "kitchen", cooking and serving play food, it is disheartening to see them playing in such conditions.

I am sure that a new toy kitchen set would enhance our dramatic play center immensely. My special needs students would be able to work on their play and social skills with the proper toys and materials. No longer would they have to contend with broken furniture.

You can make a difference in the lives some special children. Please, help cook up some pretend play skills by donating a new kitchen to my classroom!
