Learning To Count Money With a Classroom Store

I am a first year teacher trying to engage my students' learning through every day activities. I teach first grade at a Title I school in Oklahoma. My students are in great need of engagement and excitement in their journey to learn every day math skills.

As a first year teacher, I am very limited in my supplies. I have been spending my own money to create an engaging learning environment, but can only afford to do so much. Even with working a second job on the weekends, I can only afford to provide for certain low cost materials that would engage my students' learning.

My students are struggling to learn how to count money or even learn their addition or subtraction facts. I want a learning center that will engage the students and help them to see the value that their math skills have in their parents' and their own every day activities. I want my students to live their math skills. Through installing a classroom store, I believe that my students will be actively engaged in counting money and adding their coins to make the correct change for each item.

Your help will ensure that my students enjoy learning about money. You will make it possible for my students to go to second grade confident in their addition, subtraction, and money counting skills.
