Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 31 energetic kindergarten students. Most of my students speak Spanish and English, and I am teaching them sign language as well. Because I teach a morning and afternoon class, your support will help 62 students!

My mother recently gave me an article from the Los Angeles Times (http://articles.latimes.com/2009/nov/16/nation/na-bouncy-balls16) about how stability balls help students improve concentration and provide an outlet for their need to move. I borrowed one from the special education department and was immediately impressed! Each student at the Journal Center was given a few minutes to try out the ball and they loved it! I was a little nervous about the management at first, but quickly saw how the stability ball allowed just enough movement for my energetic students. They felt like the ball was a treat and were very focused an completely on-task!

I would love to have enough stability balls for an entire group (8-9 students). This would allow everyone the opportunity to strengthen their core, improve their concentration, and have fun during at least one literacy and one math center a day.

Your generous support will help my students attend more fully to the rigorous curriculum and add an element of fun which, unfortunately, is not a regular part of our busy standards-driven day. Thank you for your consideration!
