My students need one HP color laser printer that will be networked and used by students in seven different English classes.

If we expect students to fulfill the writing process and publish their writing pieces, they should have the resources to do so. My high school English students are required to revise and publish their writing pieces per curriculum guidelines and state assessment requirements.

Students are taught how to write feature articles, art critiques, brochures, and other types of real-world writing; however, when it comes to being able to publish those pieces, the only method we have is a black and white printer. Students are discouraged when they print a feature article that includes pictures, captions, text boxes, etc. that are in color on screen but printed in black and white. The color effect is lost in the piece that is called "published."

I need an HP Color LaserJet printer that will be used by all 650 students in my high school. By networking the printer, all teacher and student computers can be connected to the Color LaserJet via computers in all 7 English classrooms. Teachers stress the importance of audience awareness as students are drafting; however, they do not always understand this importance when they see black and white text printed. The printer will benefit students by motivating them to revise and publish their colorful, engaging writing piece; thus, helping them to understand the importance of the writing process and audience awareness. In addition, I have seniors who are enrolled in college classes and use class time at school to work on writing pieces and presentations. Those seniors would not only reap the benefit of the printer during their English IV class but also for their college classes as well.

Your help will ensure that students realize the importance of drafting, revising, and the satisfaction of publishing a piece in which they are proud of the writing piece's potential impact on the audience. Your donation will benefit all students in my school and those seniors who are enrolled in college classes as well.
