Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Welcome to Kindergarten! My 32 wonderful students are clever and creative! They are members of a community however that suffers from a high crime rate, societal dysfunction and gang activity. For this reason many of my students have little or no opportunity for outdoor experiences away from school.

My students need opportunities to discover nature. I am currently in the process of creating an outdoor classroom complete with opportunities to bring nature in and academic activities out. Because of the crime in our school neighborhood my outdoor activities need to be portable so that I can protect them from vandalism.

We need an outdoor classroom kit for the seasons, the five senses, color changing touch squares, a cd read along about wolves and storage cart that will give me an opportunity to create an area for us to conduct open and guided inquiry investigations in an outdoor setting. Lakeshore Learning company has designed kits and a cart that will enable me to create an amazing set of learning experiences for my students outside. With this outdoor classroom we will use our five senses to discover new areas of our playground and adjoining park area. I can easily wheel the cart in and out of my classroom so that the students will always has access to the materials. By making the most of the safety of our school environment I can help students to understand the natural environment. This type of activity lays a foundation for later scientific investigation and creates an appreciation for and understanding of our environment.

By supporting my goal of building a portable outdoor classroom you are providing my students access to discovery learning that will last a lifetime. Thank you in advance for making a difference for my young students.
