I have the most incredible third graders! They have become voracious readers and have especially enjoyed reading the Ready Freddy! books. Although, we work in an urban high poverty district, students do not let our limited resources prevent them from being curious, successful learners; especially when it comes to reading. They are eager to get their hands on everything they can read.

We began reading this series a few weeks ago and the students have already read all three of the books that I have, but they want to read more. Both boys and girls enjoy these books because they can relate to Freddy and the crazy situations he gets himself into at home and school. Each book also includes questions and activities related to the story at the end of the book. They like following Freddy's adventures and thinking about what they would do if they were in the same situations. This series also invites students to write to the author. There are prompt questions pertaining to the story that students can share. My students immediately wrote a letter following the first book we read; we are anxiously awaiting a reply.

Your donation will make it possible for our third graders to experience reading a complete series of books. Children at this age love to read chapter books especially when they can follow a character. They love getting to know the character and seeing what kind of mischief he will get into next. This series is at students' independent reading level, so they can read by him/herself or with a friend. They also make great read-aloud books. Once we finish reading a book aloud, this becomes a great opportunity for lower readers to re-visit the book and read independently.

As a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than having kids get excited about learning. I have been impressed at the students' growth this year and their increased interest in reading. For some of the students, this has been the year that reading has "clicked". I love to see the students beaming with pride when they finish a book and just can't wait to read another. This is the kind of excitement in reading that your donation will make happen.
