A classroom full of readers needs more books to get their greedy hands on! I teach 6th grade in a small, rural, mostly low socio-economic community.

My students LOVE to read. While we have plenty of books to choose from in our school library, I have started doing literature circles this year in my classroom. I need a set of 6 books to do literature circles. The students are put in small groups for these circles and really enjoy it. The downfall is that I have had to buy the sets using my own money to find literature that I know will interest them.

Having these books will get my literature circle library going and will enable my students a bigger variety of literature to read in our circle groups for the rest of the school year. The books will also be used for future classes as well. Students will benefit from reading a variety of genres of literature, and will focus on different skills in their literature circle assignments. They also enjoy working on their literature circle assignments with their groups and meeting with the teacher to discuss the book as they read.

By donating the funds for these books, you will make it possible for students to have more literature for my students to read and to participate in student led learning, which is what a big part of literature circles are when they are done properly. Upper elementary students need to feel trusted that they can handle responsibility with their own learning with monitoring. My students will be so appreciative and excited with this learning opportunity.
