Mrs. M.
Grades 3-5

I am a Literacy Lead in an inner city school. I support students from Grades 1 - 4. Our school is very diverse which makes it difficult to appeal to all of our students. My goal is to support teachers and their students with fine literature and reading strategies so that they can help support and stimulate their students.

Since our students come from a disadvantaged background, many have not been exposed to various cultural experiences. We are trying to incorporate literature as a means of enhancing their skills.

By building better readers through literature my school will be able to show more progress when it comes time to take Standardize test. We have a large population of diverse learners and we want our children to be exposed to culturally diverse materials that are relevant to their interest, needs and backgrounds. Our desire is to increase within our students an appreciation for literacy and literature, and in so doing raise required standardize test scores to a proficient level as required by both the district and the state. We are striving to improve our school's test scores and to have a successful school rating by the end of the year. We want to show growth in reading across the school so that better gains can be achieved with instruction.

Your help will make it possible to put quality literature into the hands of inner city students who are longing to make connections through literature. Your materials will enable our students to have a sense of pride about their backgrounds, interest and cultural experiences. Your efforts and support our most appreciated as our students strive to make sufficient success as they master better reading techniques. The materials will be a wonderful tool in promoting the joy of reading. Thank you in advance for your time, your commitment and your support with helping to support achievement.
