Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a Pre-Kindergarten bilingual class. My school is located in a very poor area, both economic and cultural. It is a high need community and all my students receive free lunch.

My class is a new bilingual class, so I have to survive with materials that other teachers gave me at the beginning of the school year, besides I am new to this school and to this country! I do not have any materials with me which I can bring to the class. My children are making some materials, but there are some things that can not be made by us and that we need in order to have a good education.

I would like to create a symbolic play center in my class. For that I already have the basic stuff (a little kitchen and a fridge) but we need some items to make it more useful. Symbolic play and role playing is essential in early childhood, and the only place my kids can do that is at school. They do not have right models at home, so school is the only place they have left to give them a good pattern of behavior and avoid stereotypes.

Your help will ensure that my children grow up in a safe school environment which will make them tolerant and respectful adults in the future.
