Reading into the future. I teach seventh grade advanced reading. Some of my students do come from high-need homes.

I teach in a small district with limited funds; therefore, the money I need for classroom resources is usually limited. My advanced reading students expressed an interest in science and technology, so I thought a unit on Ben Carson, a prominent neurosurgeon, would appeal to my students' interests. As I previously mentioned, some of my students come from high-need homes. Since my school does not have the money to buy a classroom set of Ben Carson's autobiography, Gifted Hands, I am hoping to find a donor willing to help each of my students have access to the book.

I need a classroom set (16 books) of Ben Carson's autobiography, Gifted Hands. I want each student to have their own copy of the book to read during class. I believe this book will motivate my students to strive to be the best at everything they do. I also believe this book will help my students to see that anything is possible if they believe. Additionally, I know this book will appeal to the interests they have voiced this year.

Your help will ensure that my students see themselves as valuable human beings capable of accomplishing anything.
