Follow the bouncing ball out-of-bounds and straight to learning success! I currently teach all subjects to 22 first grade students.

Every year, a new group of students come to my first grade class. Every year, the group tends to have a specific issue or need woven through the entire group. Over the past few years, I have noticed a trend of my students having an increasingly harder time being able to sit in their desk chairs as they complete the necessary tasks of the day's learning agenda. This year the class has shown a great need to learn through the bodily-kinesthetic mode - learning involving their entire bodies and movement. I recently studied Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory in my graduate studies and would love the opportunity to complete action research in my classroom with this form of learning.

I would like to provide my students with a stability ball to use as a desk chair. The ball would offer my students a means of moving their bodies and channeling their energy into a positive form promoting greater attention. Not only will using the balls as chairs promote acceptable movement during instruction, it will also increase blood flow to the students' brains and reinforce good posture.

Your help and generous donation will allow me to implement this research project in my classroom in hopes of providing my students with rigorous instruction and an interactive learning environment that best meets these needs. The funding and success of this project will continue to support my future first graders as well. By having the chance for movement during instruction and the novelty of using the stability balls as chairs, the classroom environment will enhance learning for all of my students. In advance, I thank you for this gracious opportunity to create a wonderful and successful first grade experience for all of my eager and energetic learners. Having a successful first grade experience provides a solid foundation for their future school careers and beyond.
