The library media center in our school is the hub of the school. It is a vibrant classroom where students are exposed to great books, informative reference materials, technology and audio visual equipment. We are in desperate need of a TV as a supplementary tool for our lessons. Many of our students are visual learners and watching a video clip of penguins gathering on an icy slope or the hearing the sounds of the animals in the rain forest help students gain a deeper understanding of what they are researching. Using a TV/DVD as an added source of information will also improve their critical thinking skills in the area of visual literacy.

There is an ancient TV in the media center with broken buttons and a fuzzy picture. A new DVD player cannot be connected because of the configuration of the wires. When a DVD is used as part of a lesson or a professional development seminar, we have to resort to a small TV on a cart.

It would be great to have a 21st century TV in the media center. It would be used occasionally as a supplement to a lesson, for after school care, meetings, staff development seminars, and literature appreciation. It would also be great to have a Panasonic TV to view DVDs of student work.

Your donation will help us teach students the importance of visual literacy and help them develop a better understanding of viewing quality information. In addition, a new TV in the media center will be a welcome addition to teach students to compare and contrast a book with its movie format. It will be a great teaching tool and will be appreciated by all 530 students in our school.
