Creating Financially Calculating Students

My students need 12 HP financial calculators.

I am the only business education teacher in a high need rural district. In the past 18 months, our students and their families have experienced the financial hardships that were incurred with the loss of local industry.

Because of the loss of jobs and the financial hardship that some families are experiencing, some of my students are unable to purchase calculators to use during class. When some families are struggling for basic needs, I am unable to request that students purchase expensive calculators. We have been borrowing these calculators from other departments and sometimes students share one calculator between four or five students.

My students need 12 HP financial calculators to use for class. These calculators will be used to perform the calculations needed to figure time value of money, compound interest, amortization, interest on loans and many other financial formulas that we work on in our business classes. In addition, we will use these calculators in our basic and upper level accounting classes. Many of these students are college bound and will need to know the basics of money and calculations that deal with real life situations. Furthermore, many of these students will become business majors in college who will need to have the basic knowledge of how these calculations apply in a real-life setting.

With your help, twelve HP financial calculators will ensure that my students have the opportunity to use these equations and concepts to become more financially responsible citizens. Each student will have the chance to use these calculators to practice these formulas and become much more "money-wise."
