Can we...Weave, Mold, Cut, Carve, And Print?

My students need linoleum sheets for black printing, foam block printing sheets, leaf printing forms, needles for weaving, texture plates, edging scissors, and model magic.

I have five hundred inspired, creative, and deserving students that are wanting to explore different forms of art that they have never created before. We lack the art supplies needed to go beyond the basics and really dig into all the possibilities that art offers. I am the sole art teacher at my school and this is my first year in this position. We do not have an art fee for the students; therefore, there is no funding for art supplies. My students are kindergarten through fifth grade and 93% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of the students do not have art supplies available at home, so school is the main place where they are able to explore their creative side and make unique works of art in which they can take pride. Carving into linoleum or foam for block printing is an activity that really leaves a lasting impression on students. They always remember being able to use new tools and create a form that they can keep to make artwork from for years to come. Learning to control the tools and create these projects is an important lesson in the art classroom. In addition, weaving is another activity that really lets the students get creative and try new things. The model magic would allow for the students to create clay-like projects without the hassle of having to wait for them to be completed. In addition, the edging scissors and texture plates with help to continue incorporating the important lessons of the elements of art into class regularly. I'm hoping that with these materials, the students will make artwork that they will keep long-term and really take pride in the work they do in my classroom. Studies have shown that kids who are provided exposure to various forms of artistic expression enjoy marked improvements in motor skills, coordination, concentration, and in other areas. The use of different tools and supplies in art activities needs to be included in these various forms of artistic expression. The arts enable us to have experience we can have from no other source and through such experience to discover the range and variety of what we are capable of feeling. You would be ensuring that the students in my school would have more bright spots in their lives, just by giving them the opportunity to explore drawing and coloring in a whole new way.
