I co-teach 36-40 wonderful,rambunctious, inquiring first graders in Northwest Florida. We love learning about almost everything!

Teaching first grade is a challenge! With so much emphasis on reading and math, it is difficult to find time to adequately teach Science and Social Studies.

Do you remember what it was like to get mail? The students absolutely love when the mail comes and our subscription to one of these great newspapers arrive. They are always colorful, interesting magazines the students can read independently. Time For Kids and Weekly Reader have been relied on by teachers for many years as a way of drawing the kids into science and social studies. The science and social studies textbooks are written above their independent reading level. The textbooks are not often sent home if a child misses an assignment, therefore they simply miss out. The magazines help fill that gap.

Unfortunately, the schools are not able to provide funding for these wonderful resources. Your support would provide the students with a resource they can take home with them. It is so important that students learn that learning doesn't just come from text books.
