Navigating This Thing Called Life

When students know how to better deal with the stress of life they do better academically and socially within the school system. The groups, both Anger and Trauma groups, focus on fifth through eighth graders who are experiencing difficulties with peer and teacher relationships.

The school that these students attend is in a very low income neighborhood that is highly gang infested and violence and anger are a part of their everyday life. The students have learned to cope with these situations in ways that are not conducive for academic success and in these groups they learn how to better cope with life problems.

The students that I work with are those that are having difficulty in the classroom and school environment because of behavioral issues. They participate, with me, in either an Anger Coping group or a Trauma group based on where there behavioral issues stem from. These groups help them to learn better ways to cope with emotions and triggers. The resources I am requesting will help them with finishing the group the way it is originally intended, with a video taped skit that they put on based on the model they are learning to cope with their anger. Without this resource they would not be able to see themselves acting out and practicing these skills and is not as effective as being able to view it themselves.

Your help will ensure that my students are able to have the materials needed to successfully complete group. They will also be able to earn incentives that they care about and will work even harder to make positive changes in their behavior.
