Interactive Notebooks for Scholars

My students need 70 notebooks to succeed in their Social Studies class!

Our Community School is a highly unique, rural school located on the eastern edge of the state. Our community school is operated by the Bureau of Indian affairs, serves 100% Navajo students, and is located in an area of high poverty. I teach 7th grade History and 8th grade United States History at this school.

I use a variety of different strategies within my classroom to make the material come alive, one of which is the use of interactive notebooks. This process allows my students to learn outside of the textbook through various forms of media and primary sources, and to record what they learn in a personalized format. Students use interactive notebooks to not simply take notes in class, but to make sense of the Social Studies material for themselves, and construct their own views and opinions about specific issues, which improves their understanding and retention.

Currently, I do not have the supplies needed to supply students with these notebooks for the last part of the school year, and my students need them to learn the material.

Ultimately, these materials will allow my students to continue to engage in Social Studies content. You will help make it possible for my students to become critical thinkers, social analysts, and on the path toward academic success! Thank you for your consideration.
