I am a guidance counselor who works with students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Many of these students are smart but have difficulty reading and interpreting literature. We have a large number of special education students as well as students who will not have the opportunity to "read" books outside of school.

Our school is short on supplies. We have no library for the students to visit or take books from. Many students have difficulty reading which is why I am interested in books on tape. We are a high poverty school.

I am looking for a listening center as well as a variety of books on tape including classics as well as popular novels. I am hoping that the students who have difficulty reading will develop a love of literature if they have the opportunity to listen to the books. I believe it will also benefit their reading skills if they can follow the tape with the actual book in front of them.

You will make it possible for my students to gain skills that will help their literacy, expand their thinking and knowledge and give the students the opportunity to find literature and culture in a way they may never have again.
