Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is a Title One school and is designated as a high needs population in New York. I am employed as a Resource Room (SETSS) teacher. The majority of my students are in grades 3-4 and are struggling readers. All the students in my program are classified as Special Needs children with either Learning Disabilities and/or Speech Impaired. The students who are enrolled in the program are reluctant to read, and it is necessary to motivate them in alternate ways using different strategies.

Why am I requesting printer paper instead of books or other items? Due to the budget cuts, there are limited supplies of printer paper. The printer paper is necessary for the Balanced Literacy component. In shared reading and Partner Reading, the students are given copies of the Chapter Books or passages to read. My program requires the students to participate in Balanced Literacy and to scaffold reading activities to support them in the classroom.

I requested 25 packages of printer paper in order to have copies of Chapter Books and passages necessary for Balanced Literacy. There are limited supplies in my building due to the budget cuts in education, and supplies have been drastically reduced.

Your help will ensure that my students participate in all aspects of Balanced Literacy with the provision of the printer paper. Previously due to the budget cuts, I have purchased reams of paper to support the Balanced Literacy component. Your help will enable my students to participate in Balanced Literacy by having copies of the reading material at their fingertips!
