Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are eager to become great writers and be just like their favorite authors. I teach 2nd grade in a low-income, high poverty Title One school in a suburb of Chicago. Many of our students have little exposure to great literature at home, and we are trying to expose them to as much of that each school year as we possibly can so they can become writers themselves.

Unfortunately there has been a cut in funding which is keeping us from adding to our school "writing library" this year. We currently teach writing through the 6 Traits approach and use literature written by published authors to expose our students to the aspects of great writing.

We are in need of some new picture books and great literature to help build our students writing skills. These books will help us build our students writing ideas, fluency, word choice, and overall writing abilities. These books will be used to build strong writers for years to come and will benefit hundreds of students in our school and community.

You will make it possible for our students to see what good writers do and what good writing looks like. Your donation will give our students the power to be writers themselves.
