Each afternoon, I teach literacy and social studies to a class of 12 energetic Kindergartners from a variety of home and family structures. More than half of my students come from low income families and English is not the first language of the majority of my students. In the morning, I provide support to other teachers in the school who are trying to integrate technology into their classrooms. Unfortunately, there is just not enough technology to go around. We have one ActivBoard for everyone in the school to use in the library. My students really enjoy using it to interact with literature, share their own stories or drawings on the board, and play games, but since we do not have one in our room, we are missing great opportunities to use it to expand our learning. Having an ActivBoard in our classroom would enable us to use it to create our own flipcharts for daily routines, to collect and analyze data over a period of time, to write interactively, and so many more learning opportunities I have yet to discover. Using the document camera with it would allow students to share their own writing and created books on the screen. This grant has the added bonus that as my students learn through this fabulous technology, I also can learn and during my mornings as a support teacher, I can share my knowledge and skill with other teachers in the school. With your donation, I will not only expand the learning of my 12 students through technology, but I can potentially influence the learning of over 300 students each year.
