Computer For Conferencing Via Skype

My students need a netbook computer to use for videoconferencing via Skype and blogging about classroom events and issues.

I teach in a high need rural high school located in a community where my students have been affected by the loss of jobs and industry tremendously in the past 18 months. I am the only business education teacher in our district and I teach a variety of subjects, from computer technology to marketing to business law. I see students in grades nine through twelve.

My students crave the knowledge that comes from having unlimited human resources. Many of these students have had very limited experiences outside of our local area or state. We utilize many of the people in our local community for authentic information and I sometimes worry that we rely on them too much.

With this HP Netbook, I will be able to have experts in many fields "visit" our classroom via Skype or other videoconferencing software and provide students with authentic material from experts in the field. This opportunity helps students broaden their view of the world as well as realize what is required to compete in a global market. Students would receive help from an expert who may live thousands of miles away from us. This project will help students realize their potential as well as their potential place in business and industry throughout the United States or the world.

You will make it possible for my students to experience the same opportunities as students living in more urban, diverse areas and call on the resources available throughout the United States.
