I am a special education teacher and I work with high school students with cognitive disabilities. My students have really shown and interest in mobility training on public transportation and throughout the community.

Most of our students are unable to read or write. Our students need a lot of visual reinforcement along with real life experiences to learn the basic life skills of getting around in the community.

I have purchased a camera with a big memory card to video tape the students traveling in the community,crossing streets, boarding buses, trains and identifying functional signs that we see while traveling. We need an LCD projector to playback the videos for the students. The students love seeing themselves on video. The LCD projector will allow us to use the video from the camera and display it for students as a visual reinforcer so the students can evaluate their own progress. This will empower the students to be more independent and get them excited about being safe in the the community. The projector will allow them to observe each other and reinforce safety skills to prepare for life after graduation.

This LCD projector will make good use of technology by serving as a visual reinforcer for basic training of crossing the streets safely and reinforcement on using public transportation. The LCD projector will also allow visual reinforcement for learning what functional signs in the community represent and to help identify landmarks. Your help will make it possible to obtain and reinforce important life skills that these students will use forever.
