Reading The Comics

My students need 11 more books for our classroom library that are fun and easy to read.

I have a group of 27 great fifth grade students that love to read. Our school is located in a high poverty area of Utah. These students succeed despite the difficult circumstances which surround them at home. Many of my students read on a level that is lower than their grade.

Many of these students don't have a chance to own their own books or visit a library. I have noticed that my old comic books are always in the hands of the students. They are hardly ever on the shelves. I know that some people don't think that comic books are good for reading, but I don't care. I just want them to read!

I would like to get more comic books for the students (especially the boys) to read. By having books in the classroom it shows students how important reading is and lets them succeed in their reading. It helps build their esteem by being able to finish something they have started.

With your help, I will be able to get more books into the hands of my students. Comic books are very interesting to the students and they love to read these types of books.
