Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a technology teacher and the technology coordinator of our small, wonderful Manhattan high school. My students come from all five New York City boroughs; a high percentage are considered high need. We also have a large contingency of special needs students.

I do a lot of multimedia projects in my technology class. Also, I constantly have students in my office that are interested in technology and like to work on editing movies and slideshows. I have students that want to make documentaries of their neighborhood and life, and others that have come up with kooky, creative short film ideas that they want to materialize. Many of our students are interested in studying technology in college, and the projects they work on give a solid foundation, and offer a constructive, creative outlet. However, the student camcorder I have is nearly 6 years old, and the computer they use is not powerful enough to run Adobe CS4 multimedia software.

My students helped me form a wish list of state-of-the-art equipment. The Canon HD camcorder has excellent reviews and is good for supervised use. The Flip HD camcorders are lower in price and more durable, so I would feel comfortable with students signing these out to video their neighborhood and home-life. The Canon point and shoot camera takes high quality pictures and video. Finally, the Sony PC is powerful enough to run Adobe After Effects, has many input and output options, and even allows us to burn our work using a Blu-ray writer!

When putting together our list, I told my students to think big. Each piece of technology is amazing by itself; with the whole package my students could do amazing things! Any amount that you can put towards fulfilling this project would be extremely appreciated by my students. We have so many talented, passionate students at our school, and you can help them focus their creative energy! No matter how big or small, your donation helps us get a little closer to our goal. Thank you!
