Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a wonderful group of fourth grade students in a community with an 89% poverty rate. My students are high achievers who work hard to achieve academic success.
As the budgets in California for education are slashed, equipment for team sports has become almost non-existent. I highly believe that students need to be taught team skills so that they can learn to work with other people. There has been such a demand for high test scores and academic success in the past years that the balance between physical and mental work is lost. I believe that successful people need to be physically fit as well as mentally fit.
I am trying to put together an array of sports equipment in order to play team sports with my students. My next step is to teach them to play the great American sport of baseball. I would like to be able to provide the proper equipment so that they can practice catching, throwing and batting while learning how to play on a team.
Your help will enable me to teach my kids the game of baseball and give them the opportunity to learn how to work as a team.
