I am the Library Media Specialist in an average size middle school, grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. We are part of a lower income community.

For many students, the school library is their only access to books. The book club gives our students the opportunity to own their books. Having books to hand to the students is vital to the existence of the Book Club.

For the 2010-2011 school year, I have chosen to focus on classic titles that will be of interest to these eager readers. Our language arts teachers bemoan the fact that there is not enough class time to cover them. I enlisted their help when selecting these titles.

With your help, I can put books directly into the hands of young teens who are eager to read and learn from the classics. The generous donations of this school year made the existence of the Book Club possible. The Book Club has sustained a modest but steady growth rate. The best result of all is that students have something to join that has no prerequisites other than just being a student at our school. Thank you so much for your help. In addition to dollars, you are giving the gift of learning to middle school students.
