Keeping the Music Together

My school rests in a beautiful valley between two state parks. While the landscapes are beautiful, there is a very noticeable lack of tax providing industry. Like many schools featured on Donor's Choose, our financial needs are great.

Probably even more detrimental to a choral music program at our school is the recent focus on testing. As monies diminish, so do arts teaching positions and programs. Such has happened at our school. No longer do we have music appreciation or chorus. The only music offered at the present time is band.

Last summer, through generous donors, an electric keyboard was donated in order that I could start an after school chorus. We finally have gotten that started and I am so very thrilled to report that we have had a wonderful start. Students attending are so very talented and they seem to sincerely enjoy the opportunity to share their hearts and voices.

As I am a math teacher, my room is full of manipulatives and other math resources. Now, I will need to create a little spot for the chorus. These choral folders will help me to keep resources separate for singers and will enable me to assign music to individual students and will help me keep the music protected and organized. I thank you in advance for your support of music in my school. It has been lacking for a very long time.
