“Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present.” ~ Albert Camus I teach U.S. History six periods a day, two of which are identified at-risk classes. Specifically, these students include those with challenges related to family turmoil, poverty, addiction, etc. They struggle to make school tasks a priority when the "real world" provides such adversity. For all students, but these in particular, teaching must include curriculum that connects classroom to "real world."

Often the at-risk students assume the role of guardian and protector in tumultuous home situations. They are guardians of family and protectors and caregivers for younger siblings. Why would they want to devote time and attention to U.S. History with such responsibility on their shoulders?

Why not use their strengths to develop their interest of U.S. History? With the Sony Webbie digital video camera, we will bring history to LIFE! Students will create stories from history, and submit them to elementary classrooms around the community. Each story will be accompanied by a written script, so young readers can follow along. The students will feel empowered as they present and share these treasured stories with young community members.

Your help will provide my students with a sense of accomplishment, and more importantly, the incredible sense of joy that accompanies the giving of oneself.
