I teach all subjects to my first grade students. We are located in a high-need community where many of our parents do not work and many do not read. My students lack the support they need at home for reading success.

My students love to hear me and anyone else read them stories. After we go to the library, they want me to read each of their books aloud. Due to time issues, I can only read a few every day. It would be nice to have an additional area during reading time so they can hear more stories.

In our classroom, I need 6 personal CD players so each student in the literacy center can hear a story of his/her choice. This would benefit my students greatly. They do not get the opportunity to hear other people read a story to them. Many of my students need the opportunity to hear stories so they can then have a model to follow when they read out loud themselves. It would help their reading levels go up automatically.

Your help will make it possible for my students to hear different stories told by different voices. In turn, I know when they read out loud their skills will improve by just modeling what they heard.
