Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"I can't do it" is a common phrase for kids, but with your help they can learn the phrase "I did it!!!" I teach 2nd grade in a low-income school with a majority of my students being second language learners.

Due to the fact that many of my students are second language learners, they have encountered many difficulties in learning to read and encounter even more when my classroom does not have enough lower-level book sets for my students to practice with. Without multiple copies of the books, my students must read different books on their own and do not have as many opportunities to participate in their own learning and that of their classmates.

My students need 6 copies of various books for them to practice reading. By having multiple copies of the books my students can read together and help each other become better readers. Students often learn better from each other than from the teacher. With these resources I will be able to group my students and allow them the opportunity to be the teachers for each other. They will gain confidence in their own reading abilities and will progress through the levels of books and eventually be reading at their grade level.

With your help my students will become powerful readers and will become successful in life.
