Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an inclusion teacher at a Title One school in Nevada, where we are struggling to meet the needs of all of our students

I am a general education and inclusion teacher and part of my day is in first grade. Not only do I teach reading I go further. I pull some children aside for a second guided reading, which is called reading intervention. We try and make do with the material from our reading series. Unfortunately, this material, which is perfect for children who are not struggling, can pose an obstacle for struggling readers. My intervention groups are in need of appropriate material that can be used for these students. This material is aimed at helping my struggling readers.

The resources that are needed are aimed at different skills in my two intervention groups. The card libraries are aimed at helping my students build words along with identifying initial, middle, and ending sounds. The word family and the sight words are aimed at helping my student to be able to quickly identify word families and sight words, which help them in their reading. The two centers focus on specific skills that I teach. The centers will give the students individual practice with teacher assistance when needed. The readers will help students with fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. The sound it out word stretchers will help my students understand the need to pronounce all sounds when reading words. Finally, the assessment material will enable me, as a teacher, to get accurate information on my students so I can provide them with the correct intervention.

You will make it possible for my intervention groups to have instruction tailored to their needs. The instruction will help every child in my intervention groups to be successful in reading.
