Traveling Book Bags

My students need 10 Take-Home Backpacks.

I teach kindergarten in a high needs school. I have a diverse classroom of learners. Around one-third of my students come from homes where English is not the first language. For about one-half of the students in my room, this is their first experience in school.

Many of the children in my class are not lucky enough to have books that provide a rich literacy experience in their homes. Not only do these children suffer from a lack of rich print, but they are not getting the opportunity to expand of their reading by playing games and talking about the books they read.

I would like to provide a literacy rich bag for students to take home and share with their families. With these bags I will be able to keep all of the materials for the literacy bags together, which will make it easier for the students to transport the materials back and forth from home to school. The bags will also make it possible to keep the materials together and organized so I can use these materials for many years with the students in my school.

With your help I will be able to create traveling book bags that are filled with literacy rich materials for the students and families in my classroom to share. I will use the bags to organize all of the materials that will go home. This project will have a lasting impact on the students that I teach and I will be able to use them for years to come. It is my hope that with your help we can help foster a love of books for the children that I work with. And that is possibly the most wonderful gift of all!
