Our special education immersed class of 22 second graders loves to meet at our class meeting spot to learn new skills, share ideas, and listen to stories.

Our current meeting spot is on the carpet-covered cement floor. It is chilly in our Wisconsin winters and there are no definable spots for each student. A new carpet would mean a warmer spot to learn as well as designate individual boundaries, helpful for our students with cognitive disabilities and those with sensory issues.

We are asking for a classroom carpet to address the physical concern of a warmer spot to learn, but also the needs of our students with cognitive disabilities who would benefit from a rug outlining sitting boundaries. We would also be able to do countless math activities as the rug is also a graph!

A new meeting rug would mean students could be more attentive to the instructional focus of our meeting time. Less time would be spent on keeping warm! It would also be great for math activities. Another benefit would be the designated spots for each student on the rug. This would help with students working on the concept of personal space.
