Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Chemistry and ICP (Integrated Chemistry and Physics) to high needs students in an urban high school. The Interactive Notebook (IAN) designed by the AVID program is a fantastic tool for teaching students science and organization skills, but unfortunately requires a lot of basic materials far beyond the typical stipend for supplies given to the academy. The Science IAN requires time and creativity to complete effectively, but also requires plenty of supplies that are used up quickly. These supplies include markers, construction paper, glue sticks and of course a composition notebook that will last the entire year. When these materials are available, students' usage of their IAN is only limited by their imagination. For this project I am requesting a composition notebook for each of my students. With your help these students will be able to develop study methods, organizational methods and real science understanding that will prepare them for a college path. AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a great program for setting students up for success. This particular aspect of AVID emphasizes the use of color and creativity in the learning and studying of material. Help students continue on this path and prepare for college.
