Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our Fourth grade classes are comprised of 96 inquisitive field scientists. Within this group there is a high percentage of low-income students.

We will be going on a field trip to China Camp State Park in the spring where we will be investigating the different habitats there. Our students have been observing nature within our school grounds through our weekly birding walks and science lessons.

We need sketch pads, pencil sharpeners, and colored pencils so that they observe and record what they see in the natural world. All field scientists keep a science journal to record their observations. Our students need science journals that real field scientists use to record their observations. Keeping a science journal will help students sharpen their observational skills. As part of the California science standards, students develop questions and perform investigations through observation and recording their observations. What better way to address the science standards than by getting students outside and doing just that!

You will make it possible for our students to make those keen observations, ask questions, use their imaginations, and develop their critical skills through field journaling. By providing students with field journals, my hope is that they continue to journal throughout their lives, appreciate nature more and more, and in turn become stewards of the natural world.
