My classroom is located in an urban area in Illinois. This project will help students who have special needs. Students range in grades from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. This school is located in a very diverse area, with students from many different cultures. Roughly 75% percent of our school is classified as low income.
Even though these students have special needs, they all exhibit the desire to utilize technology, such as a computer. I have found many useful websites that they love to visit. The problem is that the two desktop computers that we have in the classroom are not Internet accessible; therefore, the computers only use is to utilize software which is purchased.
Our school is wireless; however, since the computers are bit outdated, the only way to set up an Internet connection is via hard wire, which would be more costly than replacing these computers. Ideally, we would have to have multiple computers; however, since they are pricey, I decided to post just one up here for now. This computer will easily be able to connect to our schools wireless connection and will be able to be utilized by students every day. Websites such as; Starfall, Roy the Zebra, PBS Kids, Scholastic and Number Nut will be able to supplement student learning on a daily basis.
You will make it possible for my students to be able to have a little bit of fun, while reinforcing content in the areas of literacy and mathematics. Furthermore, you will also be providing access to technology to students will appreciate being able to utilize this resource to extend their learning. In addition, HP has been generous enough to match the donation you make on this project due to the fact that you will be helping with the purchase of an HP product.
