My Students

At risk students are students who have not succeeded at "traditional" high schools? These students all are invested in their educations and want success or they wouldn't come to our school. Technology enhances learning and sound is a great part of that. WE WANT TO PUMP IT (sound) and engage youth.

We are a small school and do not get the funding other schools get.

Economy, budget cuts, government.... all contribute to less funding while students learning styles turn more towards tech trends. Visual, good sound, fast, interesting. CREATIVE and bright, these students are typically misunderstood and stand out as non-conformists. These kids are authentic, caring, engaged and wanting to have their educations be full bodied and interesting. They win Service Learning Awards, Leadership Awards, Community Engagement Awards and more. They win Snow sculpting contests, cook breakfasts at farmers markets, and win scholarships to 4 year colleges. They are outside the norm of "traditional" education. They are purely delightful to teach most days. They are tech savvy and quick to point out what we "should" have, vs what we do have. They yearn to be educated in an engaging way.

My Project

We ask for three 5.1 surround sound systems that can be used by various media, computer, DVD, TV, etc. to boost the audio in three of our learning environments. By adding a wireless mic that runs through the surround sound the speakers presentation will also be boosted. Students will pay more attention and the content will be more interesting. Student projects will be able to be shown AND heard by the whole class instead of the current situation where the front of the room gets both. Students will be brought into the presentation instead of a by stander.

Your contribution will ensure that all students will hear all info loud and clear.

It will make the tools such as web 2.0 and newer emerging technologies (web 3.0?) tools reach out and touch everyone in the class. Students will be more engaged and learning outcomes will increase as their connections with what is being presented touches them more directly. Ultimately it will contribute to their success academically and raise the bar for their methods and expectations.
