I teach in a rural area where a majority of my students' parents struggle to make ends meat. The district is constantly cutting back funds for anything including supplies and jobs. The student population is very diverse in my area. I have special education students, ESL/ELL students, free/reduced lunch students, as well as gifted students and average students. I teach third grade and have 25 students.
My students are very special to me. Without the supplies and other school related items necessary to teach and have a welcoming room, their learning is limited. They are really into math this year, so I would love to provide them with the necessary tools to learn and grow.
I have requested class math supplies such as: base 10 stamps, coin stamps, place value game, and place value dice. Using these items will increase my students ability to problem solve and think more critically. I have also requested a rolling storage unit to house the supplies I currently have as well as the new ones. A computer desk was added to my list as well because I use the computer for enrichment games every day with my struggling students. Two pocket charts will help keep individual supplies so students do not have to "hunt" for the correct items and waste valuable learning time.
With your donation you will be giving my students the gift of knowledge. They are very smart kids who need to know that someone cares about them and receiving your gift will mean the world to them. You will be a shining glimmer of light in their bright future.
