I teach first grade in a public charter school in a urban neighborhood in California. I have 20 students who are unique and diverse in their backgrounds and socioeconomic status but all strive to succeed and go to college! We do not have many resources as a public charter school and technology materials are often not part of our budgets. In 1st grade students have trouble understanding concepts they cannot see so imagine if we could have them see and follow along with anything and everything we are doing! An ELMO document camera would allow that to happen. An ELMO would allow us to project something directly from a book, or other resource for all the students to see. It would eliminate the use of transparencies and other forms of overheard projections. The use of new and varied technology such as an ELMO introduces students to exciting technology. We know that when you learn something at a young age, you are more familiar, more comfortable and more apt to use it later. As a classroom teacher, I believe that the use of an ELMO in the classroom will be very exciting as well as enhance education for the students. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering this request. As a public school teacher, I feel we are educating the future, the leaders, the doers, the decision-makers. The more we can teach and the more technology we can introduce and learn from at an early age, the better it will be for the students and the teachers of tomorrow!
