I teach highly energetic and very active first graders in a high poverty elementary school.

In our school, there is a large area outside of our classrooms called a project area. During the day, all of the first graders in the school gather in this area to learn various concepts and/or subjects. This area is uncarpeted so it is a rather cold and unwelcoming space for our students. Most importantly, the large undefined seating area makes it difficult for our 70 first graders to remain seated and focused during these large group lessons.

I am requesting two area carpets that will provide a designated place for most of the first graders to sit and learn. These carpets have big, bold squares in 5 vibrant colors, which will provide plenty of seating options for all three first grade classes. The extra-roomy squares provide each child lots of space to sit. Having a specific and warm place for many students to sit will allow them to stay focused on learning.

Your generosity will provide a designated warm place to sit for most of our first graders. I know that when funded, this project will positively impact our student's learning because it will increase their ability to attend to the academics being taught.
