Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I an a Career and Technical Education educator in a high needs, urban school district. My HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) students are working diligently on collaborative hands-on projects that will aid in their career certifications and apprenticeships.

Currently, my students are faced with the challenge of not being able to accurately perform self assessments. While I provide as much feedback as possible, in real world situations, my students must be able to think for themselves and, more importantly, be able to make split second decisions regarding the projects they are working on. These decisions will affect the end HVAC project for the client (happy client = more jobs in the future).

I need a camcorder to record my students working on their simulated labs and the television in order to view the lab footage. Again, my students will be able to self assess and correct themselves. In addition, I will be able provide more in-depth feedback to my students, as well as give a analysis of their progress throughout the year based on the footage. Ultimately, this project will assist my students in becoming better prepared for the NOCTI Certification Exam for HVAC, as well as get them prepared for apprenticeships in the real world. My students can also use the footage as a portfolio to show potential employers their ability and skill level in performing job required tasks.
