As an educator, there is no greater feeling of accomplishment in the world than knowing that your students are getting the best possible education that you can provide for them. My students need and deserve that not sometimes, but all the time. They are high school juniors and seniors who will be embarking on the big, broad and bold world in little than no time. The preparation needed to get them ready for what soon lies ahead requires a great deal of creativity and improvisation because they are special needs students. Although they are upperclassmen, they function at or below the second grade level. Preparing them for independent living is both rewarding and challenging. I rely heavily on the Internet and teacher-created material because the content in the textbooks is often too advanced for my kids and I have to tailor the curriculum to their specific needs. They are also very visual learners. Photocopies; therefore, are a staple. Unfortunately, getting the copies isn't always a simple task. It would be extremely beneficial to have our own photocopy machine in the classroom. This would make planning less of a struggle and allow for more time for actual instruction. It would also help in creating more individualized lessons and activities for individual learners. Thank you for considering my request. Both my students and I greatly appreciate it.
