Preparing to leave high school and enter the world of college takes exploration, planning, and a desire to achieve. I am a Kindergarten through 12th grade special education teacher working in a rural, high-need community in Oklahoma.

Opportunities for college exploration is limited to many of my students. Many of our parents simply cannot afford to take their children to visit college campuses. Our school offers trips to various in-state colleges during the year to encourage students to reach their higher education goals. The students I serve often are just along for the ride without believing that college is within their abilities.

My classroom needs 4 HP digital cameras for my students to take with them to campus visits. The images they capture will be kept in their transition portfolios to document the trip and to further solidify the experience in their minds. The images can also be revisited with the school counselor, teachers, and parents as a springboard for conversations about college and career planning.

Your help is valuable because you are directly impacting the quality of life for students with disabilities. Many people with disabilities often do not go to college because of the academic challenges they face everyday. This project will help to boost my students' esteem and realize their potential to achieve beyond high school.
