Teach Me To Read...Please!

My students need 6 phonics resources including Vowel Teaching Tubs, Fishing for Phonics, and a complete set of Magnetic Language Centers.

I teach a bright and curious 5 year old kindergarten class in rural South Carolina. We are a Title I school with 93% of our students receiving free or reduced meals. Our school district is located within South Carolina's "Corridor of Shame" which was featured recently on SC's ETV. Due to state budget cuts my school is not able to buy supplies needed for this school year and we've been told that next year will probably be worse.

In the last few weeks my students have become very excited about learning to read words. They have just begun to grasp the concept of word families such as "an" in man and tan. I desperately need literacy supplies for my students so they can practice their newly acquired reading skills. Students in our school are expected to enter first grade knowing how to read high frequency words and have a large sight word vocabulary. This is quite a formidable task for students without the prerequisite literacy skills in place.

I teach using literacy work stations in my classroom. Students rotate to various stations each day to learn from hands-on activities. The games and hands-on learning activities will be used with students during guided reading and literacy work stations. I plan to use these games throughout the school year.

Your generous donation will help to provide my students with learning center activities, games, and books that will empower them to master the prerequisite skills needed to form a strong foundation for beginning reading and future school success.
