Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our High School is a place where students who decide to study music have many opportunities to explore their musical interests. Many of the students in our urban setting find the music program to be a place where they may learn about music, a subject matter which often offers them an academic escape from the normal rigors of high school. Our students are very dedicated to the program and deserve nothing but the best. Currently, the school offers a multitude of band, choral, and orchestral ensembles in which students may perform and their talents are showcased in concerts and festivals throughout the school year.

Though our students very much enjoy participating in our performance-based ensembles (the majority of which begin instruction in fifth grade), many students become more interested in music once they reach high school and unfortunately miss out on the cumulative process of learning to play an instrument in the younger grades. Many of these students develop interests in music technology, such as audio engineering, recording, mixing, mastering and live audio reinforcement. Some of our students have expressed interest in studying audio engineering in college which is a pursuit which I as an educator want desperately to support.

The Yamaha Audio Workstation for which this project is written would allow students in this category to experiment and develop their own musical interests while working in conjunction with all of the musical groups offered by our high school. This state-of-the-art digital music recorder would give my students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the practice of recording, editing and refining live music (provided by the musical ensembles of the school.) It is my hope that the student interest in this field, along with the acquisition of this digital recorder will eventually yield a dedicated course in recording technology at our school in the near future, servicing the needs of an increased percentage of our student population.

However, in order for these future plans to materialize, we will need your help to acquire this digital audio workstation. Your donation to this project will help to put professionally-utilized technology into the hands of some of the most deserving students that I have ever met. Their desire for their individual and collective growth and development is unparalleled. Please help me give them the sense of direction for which they spend much time seeking.
