I teach in a K-8 Title-1 school in New York where we benefit from the culturally rich crossroads and the strong sense of community of second-generation Latino immigrant, Hasidic and African American families.
Research has shown that instrumental music instruction not only increases coordination, dexterity, and interest in music, but also improves mathematical and verbal cognition in children. I want to provide my students with an opportunity to learn an instrument that not only interests them, but will provide them with lifelong benefits.
We have been so fortunate to have received a piano keyboard lab through the generosity of donors like you. We have been provided 10 keyboards, a set of headphones, and accessories so that students can participate in class piano. There are still a few items that we need, however, to make our class piano program a reality.
In order to fully utilize the keyboards, I am asking for a class set of piano instruction books, along with a teacher's manual. I am also asking for an additional keyboard, stand, and ac adapter, as the lab that we received left us one short. Last, I am asking for a 16 outlet power strip so that we can plug all the keyboards in.
With the items requested, you will help my students get the most out of their amazing new piano lab. They are so excited to use the lab, and I can't wait to get started!
