Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Kindergarten students in a low-income, high poverty school district, where many of the students are initially learning English.

For the first time, I have been placed in a Kindergarten classroom large enough to make it possible to capture my students learning on media. They are so creative, that often I wish I could take pictures, and share them with the school community on a daily basis. The only problem is that I have to bring in my personal camera from home to capture these moments, and often, they occur when the camera is not here at school.

My students need a digital camera to take pictures in the classroom. A camera would allow us to document our activities that are hands on. I can't count on my hands the number of times my students have done something great, and have asked me if I brought my camera to take a picture. Having a classroom camera would allow me to capture that “Kodak moment.” A camera would also enable us to seize our kindergarten memories on film and create a memory book at the end of the school year. Which would be taken home, to later remember a first year in elementary school. Also, a great way to document our students' progress towards state standards is to use digital photographs. Please help us receive the digital camera we need. Digital cameras have become a teacher's best friend. The digital camera will serve the entire class as a whole and will often be utilized in small groups. The camera will be effective in all curriculum areas as it is useful in maximizing their exposure to technology in the classroom.

Your support will help inspire our classroom to document our work. You will also be providing a great tool for kindergarten students to record their early childhood memories at school. It would allow us to capture our kindergarten memories on film and create a memory book at the end of the school year to take home to remember our first year in elementary school.
